Technology

Technology advances come at an ever increasing rate. As soon as your institution makes a decision, others (especially vendors and suppliers) are telling you what the next “must have” is. Many technologies are launched before they are mature enough and initial adopters, particularly in small organisations, are often disappointed.

We can help you look at new technologies to properly assess their suitability. Equally important is the assessment of your organisations capability to adopt the technology and identify any changes and training needs required.

Some examples:-

  • Open Source versus Proprietary software - each has advantages and disadvantages and the choice is not always as easy as the enthusiasts and suppliers would have you think. What is more important is to have a properly developed strategy and choose the right technology and staff to support it.

  • Wireless networking - depending on the requirements this may have advantages over conventional wiring and it is certainly more flexible - but it comes at a cost. It is certainly not the panacea some suppliers or enthusiasts would have you believe. Security can be problem as can contention on a busy system.

These are some examples of technology choices being promoted at present. We can help you make the right choice for your institution. For a no obligation discussion, please contact us.
