Some institutions, especially smaller ones, find that they may need a highly experienced manager on a short or part time basis. This is usually because of a peak in workload due to a major project, shortage of skills (e.g. project management) or perhaps to cover for temporary absence or even unexpected departure.
Interim Management
Another requirement can sometimes be a need to change an existing IT department to work more efficiently and effectively. It may be that the existing department has been in place for a number of years and needs to be refocused on the changing needs of the institution and away from technology issues. This may not be a reflection on the staff involved; they may just need to be shown and understand the new systems and technologies influencing the education world. A short term (or interim) manager can bring this about where a permanent appointment might not be justified.
Project Management
You may need a project manager to oversee the implementation of a new system in an area where your existing staff have little or no experience. A part time manager may be sufficient to oversee the progress of your project and ensure that it is delivered on time.
